LPA likely to become first tropical cyclone 'Auring' within 24 hours

A low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a high probability of intensifying into a tropical depression within 24 hours, potentially becoming the first tropical cyclone of 2025 named Auring.

As of 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, the LPA was located over the coastal waters of Itbayat, Batanes and is affecting Batanes and Cagayan.

The LPA is expected to track northwest toward Taiwan and may dissipate within 48 hours.

PAGASA forecasts 50 to 100 millimeters of rain until Friday afternoon over Batanes, Cagayan, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.

The southwest monsoon is causing widespread rains across the country and is forecast to gradually weaken starting Friday.
