LPA east of Baler may become tropical depression

A low-pressure area (LPA) east of Baler, Aurora, is expected to bring cloudy skies and rains to most of Luzon.

The LPA has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours, which would be named Auring if it forms within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The LPA is located 275 kilometers northwest of Baler, Aurora, or 215 km west northwest of Bacnotan, La Union.

The southwest monsoon (habagat) is also contributing to rainy conditions in western Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, Metro Manila, Bicol Region, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, and Calabarzon.

Ilocos Region, Abra, and Benguet will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA, with possible moderate to heavy rains causing flash floods or landslides.

Occasional rains caused by the southwest monsoon will be experienced in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are forecast in the western sections of southern Luzon and the Visayas.
