Garment exporters to produce 10k PPE coveralls daily after Holy Week

Philippine garment exporters, under the Confederation of Wearable Exporters of the Philippines (CONWEP), are set to produce 10,000 medical-grade PPE coveralls daily after the Holy Week.

The design prototype for the PPE has been approved by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) for waterproofing and contaminant resistance.

Raw materials for the PPE production will be imported and are expected to be shipped this week.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) will procure the initial 10,000 pieces of PPE coveralls and donate them to the PGH.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez highlighted the collaboration between the government and private sector to protect healthcare workers amid global PPE shortages.

Lopez also mentioned that private sector financial resources will complement CONWEP's production capacity.

The government has implemented tax and duty exemptions for the importation of PPE and medical supplies under the 'Bayanihan To Heal As One Act'.
