DOH procures 1 million PPE sets worth P1.8 billion

The Department of Health (DOH) has procured one million sets of personal protective equipment (PPEs) worth P1.8 billion.

The first batch of 15,000 PPE sets has been distributed to Luzon's COVID-19 referral hospitals, including East Avenue Medical Center, San Lazaro Hospital, Lung Center of the Philippines, Philippine General Hospital, Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center.

The remaining 985,000 sets are scheduled to arrive between April 6 to 24.

Each complete PPE set includes eight items: coveralls, N95 masks, gloves, head cover, shoe covers, goggles, surgical mask, and surgical gown.

Meanwhile, medical staff in Marinduque's Torrijos Municipal Hospital are using donated disposable ponchos while awaiting official PPEs.

The Philippines has 2,796 isolation beds and 1,263 vacant ventilators, which are currently sufficient for the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

As of Wednesday, the Philippines has a total of 2,311 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 96 deaths and 50 recoveries.
