SMC, SM donate P670M for PPE, testing kits

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) will spend P500 million to procure personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline healthcare workers in the Philippines, utilizing its global network.

SMC president and COO Ramon Ang emphasized the urgency of providing these protective gears and urged domestic manufacturers to retool their facilities to increase production.

SM Investments Corporation, through SM Foundation, is donating over P170 million for PPEs, surpassing its initial P100 million allocation.

The SM donation will also help ensure wider availability of testing by supporting local test kits and providing FDA-approved PCR kits, as well as donating ICU-grade ventilators.

Several hospitals, including major COVID-19 designated hospitals like UP-PGH and Lung Center of the Philippines, have already received PPE donations from SM as of March 27, 2020.
