DSWD assures SAP beneficiaries in GCQ areas will get aid

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assured that Social Amelioration Program (SAP) beneficiaries in areas now under general community quarantine (GCQ) will still receive the first tranche of emergency subsidies.

DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao confirmed that since the funds for the first tranche have already been transferred to local government units (LGUs), the distribution will continue.

Low-income households are entitled to receive cash subsidies ranging from P5,000 to P8,000 for two months, April to May, under Republic Act No. 11469.

As of April 28, DSWD reported that over P80 billion in SAP funds have been transferred to 1,500 LGUs, with P39.4 billion disbursed to 7.6 million beneficiaries.

An inter-agency technical working group is finalizing guidelines for the second tranche of SAP subsidies, which will be presented to the Inter-Agency Task Force for approval.

Poor families in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and other areas still under lockdown are expected to receive the second wave of emergency subsidies, following President Duterte's decision to extend the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until May 15.
