Palace warns LGUs of sanctions for subsidy distribution delays

Malacañang warned that administrative and criminal sanctions, including dereliction of duty charges, will be imposed on local government units (LGUs) that fail to complete the distribution of the first tranche of emergency subsidies by April 30.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) undersecretary Jonathan Malaya stressed that local officials are accountable for the subsidy distribution after signing a memorandum of agreement (MOA).

Malaya warned that negligent local officials will be charged with administrative cases, while the DILG wants to know the reasons for any delays.

As of April 28, P46 billion of the P100 billion allocated for April had been disbursed to 8.8 million families, representing 48.7% of the 18 million qualified beneficiaries.

The government is preparing for the second wave of subsidy distribution in May, which will include qualified families not included in the initial list.

The DSWD stated that LGUs unable to meet the deadline may request an extension.
