23 PUIs in Eastern Visayas test negative for COVID-19

Twenty-three patients under investigation (PUIs) in Eastern Visayas have tested negative for COVID-19, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Eastern Visayas.

These 23 PUIs are now cleared for discharge from their respective referral hospitals.

The negative results came from the first batch of samples sent to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City.

VSMMC is the sub-national laboratory for COVID-19 testing in the Visayas, accredited by the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM).

The region's sole confirmed COVID-19 case remains a 51-year-old female from Northern Samar with a travel history to Japan, and contact tracing is underway.

A second batch of samples from 22 PUIs in Eastern Visayas arrived in Cebu City on Saturday.

The health department has recorded a total of 379 PUIs in the region since the global outbreak.
