Bureau of Plant Industry

The Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), under the Department of Agriculture, plays a key role in safeguarding the Philippines' agricultural sector by regulating imports, inspecting agricultural products, and preventing the entry of unsafe or smuggled goods. It has been actively involved in intercepting illegal shipments, such as smuggled onions and red onions from China, which have tested positive for harmful contaminants like E. coli, heavy metals, and salmonella. The BPI also collaborates with other agencies to enforce regulations and protect local farmers and consumers.
