Duterte ex-wife, relatives plan visits despite detention

Elizabeth Zimmerman, the ex-wife of former President Rodrigo Duterte, and other family members will visit him in The Hague next week despite no longer being considered next-of-kin.

Vice President Sara Duterte revealed that her mother Elizabeth Zimmerman plans to arrive for Duterte's birthday on March 28, while Honeylet Avanceña and Veronica are also planning their visits but the exact dates remain unclear.

Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte has decided not to visit due to his campaign duties in the upcoming midterm elections, whereas Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte is considering a trip but visa requirements have yet to be confirmed.

The March 23 rally for Duterte, organized by supporters in The Hague, will proceed despite his ongoing detention and charges of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Despite being detained, Duterte remains a mayoralty candidate in Davao City's election, with his former Cabinet secretary, Karlo Nograles, as his opponent.
