Yulo, Marcial, Delgaco open PH Olympics July 27

Philippine gymnast Carlos Yulo and boxer Eumir Marcial, along with rower Joanie Delgaco, will open the Philippines' campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday, July 27.

Yulo, a two-time Olympian and world champion in floor exercise (2019) and vault (2021), aims to surpass his fourth-place finish in Tokyo for a podium finish.

Marcial, who won bronze in the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics, will compete in the light-heavyweight division starting at 9:30 p.m. (Philippine time) on Saturday.

Delgaco, the first Filipina to qualify for Olympic rowing, aims to advance from the women's single Sculls heats also at 3 p.m. (Philippine time).

The Philippines has a total of 22 athletes competing across nine sports at the Paris Summer Games, with high hopes for gold or silver medals to match Hidilyn Diaz's historic feat in Tokyo.

Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino expressed confidence that this team is the most prepared in Philippine Olympic history and will deliver strong performances.
