WHO confirms Delta as dominant COVID-19 variant in PH

The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed on Tuesday that the Delta variant is now the dominant strain of COVID-19 in the Philippines, with community transmission established.

Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe, WHO representative to the Philippines, stated that nearly 70% of sequenced samples were found to carry the highly contagious Delta variant.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire reported an increase from 6% in June to 56% in August for Delta variant cases among sequenced samples.
