Iloilo opts against ECQ despite rising Delta cases

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has decided against imposing another enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) despite rising Delta variant cases.

The DOH in Western Visayas issued a new order requiring confirmed cases and their close contacts to take second RT-PCR tests and go through additional quarantine.

Selected areas in nine barangays were placed under surgical lockdown from August 25 until August 28 due to the detection of Delta variant cases, though all reported cases have already recovered.

The DOH Western Visayas office went into lockdown on August 24 after confirming two Delta variant cases among its staff; Iloilo City also breached 100 new daily cases for the first time in months.

Local government officials in Panay island tightened quarantine measures as they reported a surge in Delta variant cases, with Aklan province recording 21 new cases and Iloilo city reporting 11.
