WHO unsure if PH face shields delayed Delta spread

The WHO on Tuesday expressed uncertainty about whether face shields have contributed to delaying the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant in the Philippines.

Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe, WHO country representative, noted that while face shields may protect against infection by covering the eyes and providing an additional layer of protection for improper mask wearers, it is unclear if they played a role in slowing down the Delta variant's spread.

Abeyasinghe added that the Philippines is one of few countries advocating for face shields alongside masks, and WHO will study the country's experience with this practice.
