Sara Duterte hints at 2028 presidency during Hong Kong event

Vice President Sara Duterte hinted at a potential presidential bid for 2028 during an event with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong on Sunday, March 9.

While thanking OFWs for their support over the years and her victory in the 2022 election, she quipped about running again in 2028, drawing cheers from the crowd.

Duterte visited Hong Kong alongside her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, to thank OFWs for supporting PDP Laban senatorial candidates in the midterm polls.

During the event, Duterte shared a conversation with detained preacher Apollo Quiboloy who advised her that not running for president in 2022 was a strategic move to challenge the Marcos family's hold on power.

Sara Duterte faces an impeachment trial initiated by House lawmakers over corruption allegations and threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which she contests as unconstitutional under the 'one-year bar' rule.
