Sara Duterte returns from Hague after supporting detained father

Vice President Sara Duterte returned to the Philippines on Sunday evening, April 6, after a nearly month-long stay in The Hague supporting her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is facing charges before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Sara arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport via Emirates Airlines flight EK 334 at approximately 9:56 PM.

During her time abroad, Sara helped assemble a legal team for her father and served as his primary family representative while he was detained at Scheveningen Prison awaiting trial scheduled for September 23.

Former President Duterte faces charges of 'crimes against humanity of murder' over 43 drug-related killings from 2011 to 2019, stemming from his controversial anti-illegal drugs campaign.

Vice President Duterte stated that her father receives regular medical attention and expressed gratitude toward President Marcos Jr. for mending ties with her father during detention.

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has not yet announced when Sara will resume her official duties.
