Sara thanks Marcos sarcastically for dad's detention

Vice President Sara Duterte thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., 'ironically,' for mending her relationship with her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is detained at Scheveningen Prison in The Hague over alleged crimes against humanity.

Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro reminded the Vice President that she should first express gratitude to her father for laying the groundwork for their reunion during a press briefing on Thursday, April 3.

President Marcos responded with 'Glad I could help,' emphasizing his role in the reconciliation but suggesting that Sara should thank her father directly for the opportunity to visit him.

Vice President Duterte noted the irony of thanking Marcos because her renewed relationship with her father was due to the circumstances surrounding the drug war cases, which brought them together despite the pain and anguish it caused.

On Friday, Vice President Duterte clarified that President Marcos may have misunderstood her sarcasm when she thanked him for mending her relationship with her father.

'Hindi niya siguro naiintindihan na ang duty and obligation niya ay para sa bayan, hindi para ayusin ang mga personal na problema ng mga pamilya. The sarcasm was lost on him,' VP Sara told reporters.

Meanwhile, Senator Imee Marcos is leading Senate hearings questioning the legality of Rodrigo Duterte's arrest and has accused her brother's cabinet of lapses in executing the arrest.
