Duterte arrested by ICC; ex-wife, VP Sara visit

Elizabeth Zimmerman, former wife of former President Rodrigo Duterte and mother of Vice President Sara Duterte, has arrived in the Netherlands.

Vice President Sara Duterte and her father's common-law partner Honeylet Avanceña visited former President Rodrigo Duterte at his detention center on Tuesday afternoon.

Supporters gathered near the detention facility to wait for updates as Vice President Duterte and Avanceña entered around 1:47 p.m. (Dutch time) and left again with Veronica Duterte, another daughter of former President Duterte, later in the day.

Former President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested on March 11 by the International Criminal Court (ICC) as part of its investigation into his 'war on drugs' policy during his presidency.

He appeared before ICC judges via video link on March 14 and is scheduled to attend a September 25 hearing for confirmation of charges.
