UST's Pepito jokes with NU rival Belen after Game 1 loss

UST skipper Detdet Pepito joked with her rival Bella Belen of NU about not targeting each other during the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball championship series.

Despite their friendly banter, Belen emphasized that she respects Pepito's skills and will limit her attacks towards her to avoid giving UST easy blocks.

Belen highlighted her respect for Pepito after NU won Game 1 with a 3-0 sweep over the Tigresses on Saturday.

The two players share a history as former teammates in high school before joining rival universities, where Belen has enjoyed more success than Pepito.

UST's young squad is looking to end a 14-year title drought but faces challenges without super rookie Angge Poyos, who suffered an ankle injury during Game 1.

NU aims to capitalize on their strong start and possibly sweep the series in Wednesday's Game 2.

Meanwhile, Pepito has shown leadership both on and off the court, advocating against the Philippine Government's public utility vehicle modernization program (PUVMP) due to its personal impact on her family as her father is a jeepney driver.
