UST wins first UAAP girls' basketball title since Season 82

The University of Santo Tomas Junior Growling Tigresses secured the UAAP Season 87 girls' basketball championship by defeating National University Nazareth School with a score of 63-57 in Game 2 on Thursday.

UST staged a comeback, holding NUNS to just four points in the final quarter after trailing by five at halftime and leading by one point with less than five minutes remaining.

Sandra Abrantes scored nine crucial points during an 11-0 run that propelled UST ahead with under two minutes left, including a clutch free throw and basket late in the game.

Barby Dajao led the team with 22 points and 15 rebounds, earning Finals MVP honors for her outstanding performance throughout the series.

The victory marks a significant milestone for UST as it is their first official UAAP girls' basketball title since being co-champions with Adamson University in Season 82 due to the pandemic-shortened season.
