UST secures perfect record with comeback win over UE

University of Santo Tomas secured its perfect record in the 2024 Shakey's Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship by defeating the University of the East on Sunday with a final score of 23-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 15-9 at Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Reigning UAAP Rookie of the Year Angge Poyos led UST to victory with a match-clinching spike and finished with 28 points, scoring eight crucial hits in the fifth set.

Regina Jurado contributed 14 points while Jonna Perdido added 10 attacks, three blocks, and one ace for UST, which halted UE's three-game winning streak.

UST's comeback victory was marked by improved communication and adherence to coaches' instructions, allowing them to dominate the final two sets and pull away from the Lady Warriors.

The Tigresses will face Far Eastern University in another round-robin play for one of two twice-to-beat quarterfinals advantages, while the Lady Warriors will play De La Salle University.
