UST ends 9-yr losing streak, beats Ateneo 74-64 in UAAP

University of Santo Tomas secured a 74-64 victory over Ateneo de Manila University in the men's basketball tournament of UAAP Season 87 on Wednesday, marking UST’s first win against Ateneo since September 26, 2015.

UST coach Pido Jarencio, now in his second year back at the helm, snapped a nine-year losing streak to Ateneo with this victory, improving their record to 2-0.

Forthsky Padrigao, who played for Ateneo during their championship run in Season 85, made an impact against his former team and led UST's offense, contributing significantly to the win.

UST’s depth of roster and new coach's calm demeanor were noted as key factors in their success, with players like Padrigao stepping up on the court.

Coach Jarencio emphasized that while this is a significant victory, there are still bigger challenges ahead in the tournament, including upcoming games against Adamson University and De La Salle University.
