UST beats Ateneo 3-0 in UAAP women's volleyball

University of Santo Tomas secured a victory against Ateneo Blue Eagles with scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-21 in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Angge Poyos led UST with 19 points, while Regina Jurado contributed 14 markers and Pia Abbu added 13 points, helping the team overcome a close second set before pulling away in the third set to secure their fifth consecutive win this season.

UST's victory came despite Ateneo losing another player to injury early in the game; Sobe Buena was stretchered off due to an apparent knee injury, adding to existing injuries for Zel Tsunashima and JLo delos Santos.

The Golden Tigresses improved their record to 5-1 while Ateneo slipped to a 1-4 card, making UST only behind undefeated National University in the season standings.

UST will face defending champions National University in their final game of the first round next Sunday, while Ateneo will play against La Salle Green Archers on Wednesday.
