UE beats Ateneo 69-62, ends nine-year losing streak

University of the East (UE) ended a nine-year winless streak against Ateneo de Manila University with a 69-62 victory in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament on Wednesday night, continuing their impressive run.

Rainer Maga led UE to their decisive fourth-quarter run, scoring eight points and contributing three rebounds and three assists despite teammate Ethan Galang's absence due to a knee injury.

UE rallied from a third-quarter deficit to win the final period decisively, outscoring Ateneo 32-10 to secure the victory.

Coach Jack Santiago praised his team for stepping up in the face of roster adjustments and extending their winning streak to four games with a 4-2 record.

Precious Momowei played a pivotal role, scoring 18 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, leading UE's comeback from a 10-point deficit.

With this win, UE moved to third place while Ateneo dropped to fifth place.
