NU eyes back-to-back UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball title

National University (NU) aims to secure a back-to-back title in the highly anticipated UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament, set to begin this Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Reigning MVP Bella Belen expressed excitement about defending NU's championship against rivals like La Salle and Santo Tomas, while new teams like Far Eastern University and Ateneo also join the fray.

The season opener will feature a rematch between Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas at 3 p.m., with both teams eyeing redemption after finishing second and fourth last year respectively.

UST's Jonna Perdido and Xyza Gula are sidelined due to injuries, leaving Angge Poyos and Regina Jurado to lead the way, while FEU returns head coach Tina Salak who vows a strong challenge against UST.

The tournament also introduces a new award for Best Foreign Student-Athlete in volleyball starting this season to recognize top foreign players while maintaining the MVP title for Filipino athletes.
