DOH: UK, South Africa variants now dominant in Metro Manila

The UK and South Africa variants of COVID-19 are now dominant among cases in Metro Manila, according to the Department of Health.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that these more infectious variants have contributed to the surge in cases but emphasized that non-compliance with health protocols remains the primary cause.

Vergeire noted that both variants are present in all cities within Metro Manila, though she declined to confirm if there is community transmission of the variants.
