Iloilo mayor urges more vaccines amid surge

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is urging the national government to allocate more vaccines for Iloilo City due to a surge in cases.

Treñas noted that only 40,000 people, or less than 10% of the city's population, have been vaccinated and compared this to Quezon City which has vaccinated almost 600,000 residents.

According to OCTA Research, Iloilo City is reporting triple-digit daily cases since June 11 and its hospitals are at near full capacity.

Treñas also criticized the vaccine allocation strategy, stating that it prioritizes NCR Plus 8 areas over other regions like Western Visayas.
