PISTON to continue transport strike despite LTFRB concessions

Despite the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) granting some of PISTON's demands on Thursday, the transport group announced it will continue with its nationwide transport strike.

During a meeting between LTFRB officials and PISTON representatives, concessions were made including reducing consolidation requirements for cooperatives from 10 units to OR/CR and a petition, allowing up to three cooperatives to operate on a single route with previous fines waived, and making modernized jeepneys optional if traditional jeepneys pass roadworthiness inspections.

PISTON insists that an executive order confirming the end of the modernization program is necessary before ending the strike, while LTFRB emphasized that the Dec. 31 consolidation deadline remains non-negotiable.
