Singapore president praises Yulo's double gold as milestone for ASEAN

Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam praised Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo during his bilateral meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., calling Yulo's double gold medal victories at the 2024 Paris Olympics a 'real milestone' for Southeast Asia.

Yulo, who won back-to-back gold medals in the male floor exercise and vault events, made history as the only athlete from Southeast Asia to achieve this feat.

President Marcos expressed pride in Yulo's achievement and noted the overwhelming welcome he received upon returning to Manila with a grand parade through the city.

Shanmugaratnam emphasized that Yulo's success reflects positively on the Philippines and is a milestone for all ASEAN nations, highlighting its significance beyond just Filipino athletes.

The Philippines placed 37th in the overall Olympic ranking with two gold and two bronze medals, making it the best Southeast Asian country at the Games, marking its centennial year of participation.
