La Salle secures twice-to-beat bonus, edges out Santo Tomas in women's volleyball

Santo Tomas and La Salle competed for the No. 2 seed in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball Final Four, with La Salle securing a crucial twice-to-beat bonus.

La Salle outlasted Santo Tomas in four grueling sets, winning 23-25, 25-20, 28-30, and 29-27, thanks to Angel Canino's 24 points and Shevana Laput's 22 points, as well as a 20-8 advantage in block points.

With UST's loss, La Salle will face Santo Tomas again this Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in the semifinals, aiming to play a notch higher and not waste their twice-to-beat advantage.

UST coach Kungfu Reyes admitted that his team lacked a finishing kick during the crucial match against La Salle but emphasized that they still have another chance to keep their season alive with a best-of-three format.

Angge Poyos, UST's star spiker, echoed her coach’s sentiments, urging the team to 'overachieve' and take full advantage of their last chance on Saturday.

La Salle now looks to complete its payback against UST this Saturday, May 3, with a twice-to-beat edge as they meet once again in the Final Four at the Araneta Coliseum.
