Rigo Duterte files for Davao city council

Rodrigo 'Rigo' Duterte II, son of Davao City Representative Paolo Duterte, has filed his certificate of candidacy for city councilor in the first district of Davao City under the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL) party.

Accompanied by his father and brother Omar Duterte, Rigo stated he is ready to serve as a city councilor following the filing on October 2, 2024, making him the first in the Duterte family to announce a bid for the 2025 Philippine elections.

Paolo Duterte indicated that he remains undecided about his political plans for the upcoming midterm elections, emphasizing potential family discussions regarding their involvement in politics.

The elder Duterte expressed uncertainty over whether any member of the Duterte clan would run for senator and noted a shift among some long-time allies to join Marcos' party, Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas.

Paolo acknowledged these political realignments as part of the nature of politics but emphasized that past alliances do not guarantee future cooperation.
