Duterte eyes Davao City mayoralty bid in 2025

Former President Rodrigo Duterte announced on Saturday that he is willing to run for mayor of Davao City in the May 2025 elections.

Duterte confirmed his intention during a news conference where he asked the media and public if they supported his return as mayor, responding positively when some reporters affirmed their support.

He reiterated his reluctance to contest for senator due to age and health concerns, emphasizing that a national campaign would be too strenuous at 79 years old.

Duterte also mentioned that his son Sebastian Duterte, who is currently the city's mayor, should take on the role of vice mayor if he were to run.

The former president emphasized his commitment to maintaining peace and order in Davao City, warning drug dealers and criminal syndicates against operating within its jurisdiction.
