Pregnant cop's death brings PNP COVID toll to 123

A pregnant policewoman assigned in Central Luzon died on Sunday, bringing the Philippine National Police's (PNP) death toll from COVID-19 to 123.

The policewoman was admitted to a hospital due to difficulty breathing and tested positive for COVID-19. She underwent an emergency caesarian operation but her baby boy also passed away.

As of Monday, the PNP reported only 47 new infections with active cases at 941.

On Sunday, the PNP chief said active cases had decreased by 70% in a month to 953 from 3,214 on September 17.

The decline is attributed to the vaccination of policemen; as of September 28, 74% of personnel were fully vaccinated.

Sunday also saw 54 new recoveries among PNP personnel, bringing total recoveries to 40,191 and active cases to 953.
