Senate President Escudero welcomes Pimentel's impeachment rules proposal

Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero welcomed Minority Leader Aquilino 'Koko' Pimentel III's proposal to draft rules for the upcoming impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Pimentel expressed readiness to submit proposed and revised rules to help speed up the process, responding to Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino's remark that he should start drafting rules if in a rush.

Escudero instructed his legal team to coordinate with Pimentel on drafting the proposed rules, emphasizing that any proposals must still be approved by the impeachment court during Congress' resumed sessions starting June 2.

Despite calls for haste from various organizations and groups, Escudero reiterated adherence to the law and proper procedure without delay or bias.

The Senate has outlined a timeline with trial set to begin on July 30 following the House of Representatives' transmittal of Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Duterte on Feb. 5.
