Escudero rejects special session for Sara’s impeachment

Senate President Francis Escudero has dismissed the idea of requesting a special session from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial.

He stated that under the Philippine Constitution, only urgent legislation can necessitate a special session and emphasized that there is no legal basis to convene an impeachment court during non-session periods.

Escudero also clarified that any decision regarding the Senate's actions would be based on legal requirements rather than public clamor or pressure from any sector.

He added that the trial will proceed after Marcos' fourth State of the Nation Address in July.
