PHP284m shabu seized in Samar, PHP6.8m from 'John' in Negros

On Thursday night, PHP277 million worth of shabu was seized from a Toyota Avanza car near the port of Allen in Northern Samar.

The following day, Saturday evening, police intercepted a kilogram of shabu worth PHP6.8 million from a suspect named 'John' on a motorcycle near Murcia town in Negros Occidental.

Police discovered 500 grams each of shabu wrapped in transparent plastic during the search after John was involved in an accident and appeared to be panicking.

The suspects, identified as Japeth, Eman, Ruel, and John, were arrested; the first three are from different parts of Luzon and Mindanao, while John is a resident of Purok 42 Bayanihan, Barangay Villamonte in Bacolod City.

Col. Sonnie Omengan, NSPPO chief, said the larger seizure originated in Malabang, Lanao Del Sur, passed through Iligan City, and was destined for Baclaran in Metro Manila, while Maj. Sherwin Fernandez noted that John came from San Carlos City with a task to deliver the drugs.

The seized illegal substances were handed over to the PNP provincial forensic unit for examination while the suspects await further investigation and possible charges under RA 9165.
