PH reports 97 more Delta variant infections

Philippine health authorities reported 97 new cases of the highly transmissible Delta coronavirus variant on Thursday, bringing the total number of Delta cases in the country to 216.

Of these new cases, 88 were local infections, six involved returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), and three are still under verification.

Among the ROFs, two seafarers from MT Clyde and Barge Claudia, currently anchored off Albay province, and four crew members of MV Vega arriving from Indonesia accounted for the cases.

Ninety-four individuals have recovered while three died due to Delta variant infections.

The majority of new local cases were recorded in Central Visayas (32 cases), followed by Metro Manila (25 cases).

Additionally, 83 more cases of the Alpha variant and 127 cases of the Beta variant were detected.
