Philippines logs 27,331 new COVID cases, up 13%

The Philippines recorded 27,331 new COVID-19 cases from August 1 to August 7, marking a 13% increase compared to the previous week.

As of August 8, over 1.5 million health care workers, senior citizens, and immunocompromised individuals have received their second booster dose.

The daily average number of new cases rose to 3,904 from 3,443 in the preceding week.

Hospital admissions for severe and critical cases are on an uptrend since July, with 772 current admissions representing 9.3% of total hospitalizations.

About 71.9 million Filipinos are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of August 8, including more than 16.6 million who have received their first booster shot.
