Philippines logs 1,190 new COVID-19 cases; active tally rises

The Philippines recorded 1,190 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the active tally to 8,371.

This is the highest number of daily cases in three days and marks a significant increase from last week's average of 637 cases.

The national positivity rate has risen sharply, with Metro Manila recording a rate as high as 17.2% on April 29.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire noted that while the overall situation is manageable, certain areas are being monitored due to increasing admissions.

From February to early March, cases were declining, but they have since surged again with the National Capital Region logging the highest number of new cases in the past 14 days.
