DOTr enforces mask mandate as COVID-19 cases rise

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday reminded all rail services to enforce mandatory face mask usage as COVID-19 cases rise.

Jorjette Aquino, DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways, directed LRT-1, LRT-2, MRT-3, and PNR to strictly enforce mask-wearing rules in trains and stations.

Aquino also reiterated that talking with other commuters or on the phone is prohibited inside trains and that disinfection activities will continue consistently.

DOTr ordered mandatory COVID-19 testing for rail officials, employees, and personnel showing symptoms of the virus following a 42% increase in daily new cases recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) during the final week of April.
