PH records 16 new Delta variant cases

The Philippines has recorded 16 new cases of the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant, bringing the total to 35.

Of these, 11 are local cases and five are returning overseas Filipinos who have since recovered.

Six local cases were detected in Northern Mindanao as part of a large cluster, two each in Metro Manila and Western Visayas, and one each in Central Luzon and the National Capital Region.

One local case from Metro Manila died after being rushed to the hospital on June 28.

Health officials noted that while local cases have been detected, evidence of local transmission needs further investigation.
