DOH verifying claims of Central Visayas' third COVID-19 wave

The DOH is verifying claims that Central Visayas is experiencing a third wave of COVID-19 infections.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that the region's case growth rate and daily attack rate are relatively low, not yet considered high-risk.

However, Dr. Eugenia Mercedes Caña from DOH Region 7 confirmed an upward trend in cases over the past four weeks due to more transmissible variants and social gatherings like weddings and fiestas.

Caña emphasized that the virus' nature to mutate increases its transmissibility, contributing to the rise in cases.
