Groseclose, Dubberstein named Team Philippines flag bearers for Asian Winter Games

Speed skater Peter Groseclose and curling athlete Kathleen Dubberstein were named as the flag bearers for Team Philippines at the opening ceremony of the Ninth Asian Winter Games on Friday, February 7.

Groseclose will compete in short track speed skating events, advancing to the semifinals of the 1500m and quarterfinals of both the 500m and 1000m races.

Dubberstein and her partner Marc Pfister fell short against China's Han Yu and Wang Zhiyu, finishing with a 6-5 loss in their bronze medal match on Saturday.

The duo had previously defeated Chinese Taipei but lost to Japan during the qualification round before securing a spot in the semis qualifier where they emerged victorious over Chinese Taipei with a 7-2 win.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino expressed optimism about the team's chances, particularly Groseclose and Dubberstein who have been selected as flag bearers.

The national team of 20 athletes supported by the Philippine Sports Commission is competing across various sports including figure skating, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, and short track speed skating.
