Philippines Reports Over 10,000 COVID-19 Cases

As of Wednesday May 6, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines reached 10,004 with 320 new infections reported.

The total recoveries surged to 1,506 after 98 more patients recovered from the illness.

The death toll increased to 658 with 21 additional fatalities.

New cases exceeded 300 for the first time since April 6; 179 of the newest cases were in Metro Manila, followed by Region VII with 98 cases.

Healthcare workers continue to be affected, with over 1,800 testing positive for COVID-19 as reported by DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeres.

The government aims to conduct up to 30,000 tests daily and has opened a 'mega swabbing center' at the Palacio de Manila in Malate.
