Petro Gazz beats Choco Mucho in PVL opener

Petro Gazz Angels secured a strong victory over Choco Mucho in their 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference opener on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena.

Reigning PVL MVP Brooke Van Sickle led Petro Gazz with a game-high 34 points, including 28 attacks, four aces, and two blocks.

Van Sickle praised her team's effort during a postgame press conference, noting the strong energy and performance that set a positive tone for their season.

Jonah Sabete contributed significantly with 18 points, while Choco Mucho was led by Sisi Rondina who scored 18 points but could not prevent the loss.

Feeding off a telling third set where they overcame an early deficit, Petro Gazz soared to a quick 4-1 blitz in the fourth frame on the back of Van Sickle and Sabete's pinpoint cross shots.

Meanwhile, Akari Chargers also won their opener against Galeries with scores of 28-30, 25-15, 25-16, 25-23.

Eli Soyud led Akari with 21 points while Grethcel Soltones, Ivy Lacsina, and Faith Nisperos each contributed 16 points.
