PDEA destroys P615.97M worth of drugs in Zamboanga and Central Visayas

On Wednesday, February 12, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed P331 million worth of dangerous drugs in Zamboanga Peninsula, marking the largest destruction ever in the region.

The following day, on Thursday, February 13, the PDEA also destroyed P284.97 million worth of illegal drugs confiscated during various operations in Central Visayas through thermal decomposition at Cebu City.

This included 25 kilograms of shabu intercepted at Pier 4, Cebu City on January 23, 2025, and other substances no longer needed as evidence in court.

The destruction was carried out with the approval of court orders issued by several regional trial courts, ensuring compliance with legal requirements laid out in Republic Act 9165 and Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 1.

PDEA Regional Office VII Acting Director Alex M. Tablate emphasized the agency's commitment to eliminating illegal drugs and preventing confiscated substances from reaching the streets again as part of their 'drug supply reduction' initiatives.

Representatives from various government agencies, local officials, and media personalities attended both events, underscoring the collaborative efforts in combating drug-related crimes.
