Cebu City destroys PHP300M worth of illegal drugs

On Thursday, Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia led officials in destroying over 40 kg of illegal drugs worth PHP300 million through thermal incineration.

The destroyed drugs included 21 kg of shabu and 2.5 kg of marijuana, with an additional 25 kg of shabu seized from the pier area last month, bringing the total amount to 41.86 kg of shabu and 1.5 kg of marijuana.

Alex Tablate, head of the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region VII, emphasized that destroying seized drugs demonstrates their commitment to tackling the serious drug problem in Central Visayas.

The destroyed drugs were pieces of evidence in eight drug cases heard in Cebu's drug courts and were handed over for incineration at Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes.

Garcia praised PDEA-7, the Philippine National Police, and other law enforcement units for their efforts against illegal drug trading in Cebu City and announced that the city government will purchase an incinerator to burn seized drugs locally.

Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, stressed the importance of continued collaboration between police and PDEA to combat drug syndicates and appealed for community support in changing public perception towards illegal drugs.
