Virac has Philippines' highest heat index at 47°C, 30 regions hit 'dangerous level'

Virac, Catanduanes is expected to have the highest heat index on Thursday at 47°C, while Metro Manila and 30 other regions across the Philippines are set to experience a 'dangerous level' heat index.

Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay is projected to reach a heat index of 44°C, while Quezon City's Science Garden will have 42°C, both just below the danger threshold.

The 'danger' category for heat index ranges from 42°C to 51°C and can cause health issues such as heat cramps, exhaustion, and stroke with prolonged exposure.

Among the areas facing a dangerous level of heat are Catarman in Northern Samar: 46°C; Sangley Point in Cavite: 45°C; Tanauan in Batangas: 45°C; Roxas City in Capiz: 45°C; and others listed by Pagasa.

While warm weather is forecast nationwide on Thursday, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are possible according to Pagasa.
