PAGASA: 17 areas in 'danger' level heat on Mon

PAGASA reported on Wednesday that 34 areas across the country will experience a heat index in the danger level range of 42°C to 45°C on Thursday.

By Friday, at least 14 areas are expected to remain under the 'danger' level with temperatures ranging from 42°C to 44°C, including Maasin, Southern Leyte; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Aparri, Cagayan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Surigao City, Surigao del Norte; MMSU in Batac, Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; CLSU in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Casiguran, Aurora; Virac, Catanduanes; Roxas City, Capiz; Catarman, Northern Samar; Catbalogan, Samar; and Tacloban City, Leyte.

According to PAGASA's latest forecast on Sunday, 17 areas will experience a heat index in the danger level on Monday, with Virac (Synop), Catanduanes hitting 46°C, Maasin, Southern Leyte at 45°C, Aparri and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan at 44°C, and Dagupan City, Pangasinan; ISU Echague, Isabela; Casiguran, Aurora; Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; CLSU in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Alabat, Quezon; Juban, Sorsogon; Catbalogan, Samar; Davao City, Davao del Sur; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte at 43°C.

PAGASA categorizes areas with a heat index of 42°C to 51°C as being in the danger level, where risks include heat cramps, exhaustion, and potential heat stroke.

The public is advised to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, wear fresh clothing, and avoid heavy-duty activities during peak heat hours.

Baguio City, Benguet, and BSU La Trinidad, Benguet will have a lower heat index of 26°C compared to the danger level areas.
