Dangerous heat index forecast in Metro Manila and 23 other Luzon areas

A dangerous heat index is forecast in Metro Manila and 23 other areas across Luzon on Tuesday, June 18, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The hottest spots include Aparri in Cagayan with a heat index of 47°C, followed by Tuguegarao City and Dagupan City at 46°C and 45°C respectively.

Other areas such as Laoag, Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; Baler, Aurora; Subic, Olongapo City; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate; Pili, Camarines Sur; Calayan, Cagayan; Clark, Pampanga; and Muñoz, Nueva Ecija are also expected to experience a heat index of 44°C.

Pagasa advises residents to take precautions such as drinking plenty of water, wearing protective clothing, and staying in cool areas to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Despite the projected dangerous heat index in parts of Luzon, other areas particularly in the western part of Southern Luzon and the western section of Central Luzon are expected to have overcast skies with rain showers due to the southwest monsoon.
